The Great Scrape [F.A.Q's Product Specifics/Details]
What is the Great Scrape?
The Great Scrape is an all natural alternative to the conventional wire brush that just about everyone has to clean their BBQ grill grates with. No more greasy gunk filled bristles, no more chipping or scratching of your grill grates.
What is the Great Scrape made of?
The Great Scrape is made of solid oak, and is coated with an all natural, non-toxic, food safe mineral oil.
How does the Great Scrape work?
The effectiveness of the Great Scrape comes from the fact that custom grooves to match your grill grate profile. As you use the Great Scrape on a preheated grill, the hot grates burn into the tip; causing the custom forming cleaning grooves to start. The more you use it, the better it gets.
How do I know if the Great Scrape is right for my grill?
Generally, as long as your grill grates are of the front to back, straight rail type, the Great Scrape should work on your grill. Because the size and shape of all grill grates vary by manufacturer, the Great Scrape may groove faster and/or deeper on some grills than it will on others.
How long will it take for my Great Scrape to start grooving?
The grooves will start to form during the first use, although they start small, as you use the Great Scrape more and more, the grooves will get deeper and deeper, eventually covering the cooking surface of each individual grate.
How do I clean my Great Scrape after use?
Unlike the conventional wire brushes, the Great Scrape can be cleaned by simply wiping the charred debris off the tip with a paper towel or napkin.
How long will my Great Scrape last?
The useful life of your Great Scrape will depend on how well you take care of it. Like any other natural wood product, the Great Scrape may require a little care to prolong the useful life. If you left the Great Scrape outside exposed to all of nature's elements year-round, cracking, warping and/or splitting may occur, shortening the useful life. If left hanging outside is helpful to recoat your Great Scrape with food safe mineral/butcher block oil 1 or 2 times a year, or as the color starts to fade.
Is the Great Scrape safe for porcelain coated grill grates?
The Great Scrape was designed specifically for porcelain coated grill grates, but the Great Scrape is also equally effective on cast iron and stainless steel grill grates. Because the Great Scrape is made of solid wood, there are no metal bristles or metal scrapers to chip, crack or scratch delicate cooking surfaces.
How should I store my Great Scrape?
It is recommended that you store your Great Scrape out of the elements. On a hook indoors, or at least under the grill/grill cover. Like any other natural wood product, the better you take care of it, the longer it will last.
Do I need to treat my Great Scrape with anything?
Each Great Scrape is already treated with a food safe mineral oil (butcher block oil), which is the same thing you would put on a nice cutting board or wooden bowl. If the color starts to fade over time, wipe on a coat of mineral oil which is available at your local hardware, home improvement, or woodworking store. Do not use an oil that is derived from food, i.e. vegetable oil, canola oil, olive oil, etc.
